A browser is a software utility that allows you to navigate the online world of the Internet, known as the World Wide Web.
WWW Browsers interpret HTML code and display the content of the Web document to the screen. There are two major variations of Web browsers, line and graphics browsers.
A line or text browser can only display the textual portion of HTML WWW documents. Line browsers are common to shell accounts on many UNIX systems. Lynx is the most common UNIX line browser.
A graphics browser has the ability to interpret HTML WWW documents as a complex display of text and graphics. Graphics browsers are the most commonly used browsers. There are many browsers to choose from, some of the more popular are versions of Netscape, Mosaic, and Microsoft's Internet Explorer. For a more complete list of browsers, see the Yahoo! browser page.
